Review by Martha Bolton
Sandi Patty's first original album to be released in seven years, The Edge of the Divine, is not only on the edge of excellence, it surpasses it. Produced by Chance Scoggins, The Edge of the Divine is all about redemption, forgiveness, and second chances, and it comes straight from the heart of this multi-platinum and gold-certified recording artist.
With such poignant lyrics as, "In Times Like These...You're Holding Me" and "...now by love redeemed I tell my story...All to Bring You Glory," listeners will be taken on a journey (and for many it will be a familiar journey) through the pain of loss, rejection, disappointment and regrets to a place of God's forgiveness, unconditional love, and grace.
A member of the Gospel Music Hall of Fame and a five-time Grammy winner, Sandi Patty has also penned
a companion product to the CD. Her seventh book, The Edge of the Divine: Where Possibility Meets God's Faithfulness, released on August 3rd. The new CD releases August 24th.
The takeaway of this contemporary recording is simply this: God loves, God forgives, and God restores. One cut from the album might summarize Sandi's outlook best: "It's Time to Get Your Faith Dancing." It's clear from this, and each song on this album, that Sandi believes redemption is something to be celebrated.
"When Life Gets Broken" is especially moving, and Get Down and Pray is a spirited reminder of what to do in those moments when you don't know what to do.
Sandi Patty has won more awards than any other female Christian music artist, and this CD is sure to add to that list. More importantly, however, the album reveals a down-to-earth, open and honest soul whose search for mercy, forgiveness, restoration, and healing for her own pain has come to an end at the foot of the cross and at the edge of the divine.
