kim hopperKim Hopper says "My sweet little granny meant the world to me, but I'm so glad she's finally pain-free and receiving her crown for the example she was in this world."

Karlye Hopper remembers her great-grandmother fondly: "She has battled cancer for about 3 years and has been called "the lady with 9 lives" by most of the family and doctors; I.e., they have given her "a few weeks to live" on multiple occasions. She had a rough upbringing and lost her mother and baby brother to pneumonia when she was only 8. She was known to mom's friends as the grandmother that taught her harmony and how to style hair. Kim worked in her beauty shop, affectionately named Snowflake, from the time she was 18 until she married dad. She was beloved by the community and most southern gospel stomachs as she cooked the food that was served at Tony's homecoming event at the fairgrounds all those years."

Snow Townsend was born January 31, 1928 in Watauga County, a daughter of the late Stuart Blaine Hayes and Esther Coffey Hayes. She was owner and operator of Snowflake Beauty Shop, and a member and ladies Sunday School Teacher at Westview Baptist Church.

Mrs. Townsend is survived by two daughters, Carolyn T. Greene of Boone, and Donna T. Cook and husband Gary of Sugar Grove; one son, Michael C. Townsend and wife Sandra of Boone; three granddaughters, Kim Hopper and husband Dean of Summerfield, North Carolina, Gina Thomas and husband Wayne of Damascus, Virginia, and Addie Townsend of Boone; one granddaughter-in-law, TaRanda Greene of Knoxville, Tennessee; three grandsons, Tim Greene and wife Amy of Shallotte, North Carolina, Aaron Cook and wife Carol Jean, and Elijah Townsend, all of Boone; twelve great-grandchildren, Brittany Greene, Micah Thomas, Karlye Hopper, Isaiah Thomas, Seth Thomas, Rebekah Cook, Isabella Greene, Brooklyn Greene, Lexy Hopper, JohnThomas Cook, Jocelyn Greene, and Elizabeth Cook; one sister, Addie Lewis of Wilkesboro, and two sisters-in-law, Mildred Hayes of Vilas and Shirley Hayes of Taylorsville. She is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde H. Townsend; one son-in-law, Everette Greene; one grandson, Tony Greene; six sisters and five brothers.
